Last year’s Jenny and Keith White “Are You Smarter Than a Junior Fellow?” event proved so popular that it will take place for a second year at the 2016 Annual Meeting with few changes.
Without spoiling some of the surprises planned, Haywood L. Brown, MD, FACOG, who will return as moderator, said that the event promises to be just as exciting as last year, with the changes enhancing the education of the session.
The session will take place from 2 – 3 pm today in Ballroom ABC.
This event gives all Fellows a chance to engage in an educational and fun-filled session that pits professors of ob-gyn against two young physician members. Both teams have the opportunity to get help from Junior Fellows to answer the questions that will remind Fellows of the days when “ob-gyn trivia” was known by all. A common thought throughout the room is, “Oh, I remember that.”
“This session will be educational for all and will make us all proud to see that the Junior Fellows training to become specialists and subspecialists in ob-gyn — the future of ACOG — are bright, enthusiastic and fun,” Dr. Brown said.
The ACOG version of the television game show “Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?” uses questions that are graded by difficulty from PGY-1 to PGY-4 and ends with a final challenge question. The Junior Fellows in attendance represent each ACOG district and will be ready to answer when the professors call on them for assistance.
The Junior Fellows did well answering the difficult questions last year, and Dr. Brown used his wit to help the event come to life. Dr. Brown said he heard from many people who enjoyed last year’s event.
“What it means to me is that these physicians in training are well read, they are leaders in ACOG and involved in ACOG,” he said. “And if they’re reading the ACOG educational materials as they should be during their training, they should be as well informed. Some of the questions last year were quite tricky.”
