For the past three decades, the History Library has recorded interviews with prominent individuals of importance to ACOG and the ob-gyn specialty.
The project works to capture recollections of ob-gyns, women’s health care affiliates, and ACOG staff, including ACOG’s early leaders. The History Library now has nearly 90 oral history interviews in its collection. This year, the library interviewed Drs. Sam Smith, David A. Grimes, Dorothy Shaw, Steven G. Gabbe, and Kenneth L. Noller.
Previous subjects have included Drs. Woodard Beacham, Frederick Hofmeister, Keith Russell, Clyde Randall, Martin Stone, Sprague Gardiner, Luella Klein, John Sciarra, Harold Kaminetzky, Brooks Ranney, Harry S. Jonas, George Morley, Warren Pearse, Larry Longo, Roy Pitkin, Leo Dunn, William Andrews, Arthur Herbst, Tom Baskett, and, of course, Dr. Ralph Hale.
Interviews, which run approximately 30 minutes in length, are available for viewing in the History Library at ACOG headquarters in Washington, D.C. A complete list is available upon request. Send an Email the library (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.
