Menopause Essentials 101: A Starter Course

Widely covered in the contemporary lay press, menopause is a hot topic! 1.3 million women in the United States enter menopause each year. However, a recently published needs assessment found that less than one-third of obstetrics and gynecology residency programs have a menopause curriculum, and many practicing obstetrician–gynecologists feel uncomfortable addressing menopause concerns. This course will provide essential knowledge to improve practicing physicians’ competence and comfort with caring for patients experiencing the menopause transition and menopause. Through interactive presentations, the course will address diagnosis and management of menopause and menopause-adjacent conditions, vasomotor symptoms, genitourinary syndrome of menopause, nonhormone and hormone pharmacotherapy, bone health, and shared decision-making.

Substance Use Disorders 101 for the Busy Obstetrician-Gynecologist

Did you know that the DEA set a new requirement in June 2023 that all practitioners are now required to attest to receiving at least 8 hours of substance use disorder education prior to renewal? Did you know that, as of January 2023, an “X waiver” is no longer required to prescribe buprenorphine, with the goal for all providers across specialties to offer this life-saving medication to patients with opioid use disorder? This course will provide foundational knowledge in drug and alcohol use disorders as well as clinical pearls for their management in the gynecologic patient and in pregnancy. This 3-hour course can be combined with other substance use disorder sessions at ACOG ACSM 2024 to complete the new DEA regulation for providers needing to fulfill the 8-hour requirement.
