Coronado Walking Tour
Tuesday May 9, 2017
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Rich in history, natural beauty and a charming ocean village atmosphere, Coronado is most deserving of its royal ‘nickname’ – the Crown City. Bordered by the Pacific Ocean, Glorietta Bay and San Diego Bay, this picturesque seaside city is linked to the Southern California coastline and the city of San Diego by the graceful and stately San Diego Coronado Bridge, and to the south by a narrow strip of land known as the Silver Strand.
Enjoy Coronado’s beautiful architecture and colorful history during a narrated walking tour. Beginning at the Hotel del Coronado’s clock tower, ‘The Del,’ more than 100 years old, sits on one of the most beautiful beaches along the Pacific Ocean. Her guest book reads like a ‘Who’s-Who’ history book and has been the setting for many famous movies.
Next, visit Wallis Simpson’s home (the Duchess of Windsor); the home of Frank Baum, author of the ‘Wizard of Oz’; the sugar magnate John Spreckels’ Mansion; and other notable celebrities. Time is allowed to browse among the quaint shops, cafes and galleries along Orange Avenue or to take a stroll along the sandy beach, the best seashell beach in San Diego. Whatever the choice, exploring the island is a relaxing way to spend the day.
