Simulations and Skills Session

The meeting features hands-on workshops designed to enhance clinical skills and bridge the gap between medical education and practical application. This hands-on Simulations and Skills session allows medical students to “see, learn, and do” many of the procedures that are routinely performed by obstetrician–gynecologists while interacting with faculty from across the country in a safe and supportive learning environment.

Workshops include …

  1. Hysteroscopy: Gain hands-on experience with hysteroscopic techniques, learning how to diagnose and treat intrauterine conditions using several different types of hysteroscopic simulators.
  1. Laparoscopy: Using a laparoscopic box trainer model and learn basic laparoscopic skills, including camera navigation and instrument handling.
  1. Ultrasound and Imaging in Obstetrics and Gynecology: Learn the essentials of ultrasound and imaging techniques to assess and diagnose various obstetric and gynecologic conditions effectively.
  1. Spontaneous Vaginal Delivery (SVD) and Forceps-Assisted Vaginal Delivery (FAVD): Develop skills for managing both spontaneous and forceps-assisted vaginal deliveries, focusing on safe and effective techniques using simulation models.
  1. Vacuum-Assisted Vaginal Delivery (VAVD): Train in vacuum-assisted delivery techniques to support challenging births while ensuring maternal and fetal safety.
  1. Knot-Tying: Learn and refine knot-tying techniques essential for suturing and securing surgical procedures with confidence.
  1. Suturing: Practice basic and advanced suturing methods to enhance your surgical skill set for ob-gyn and other procedures.
  1. Contraception: Explore contraceptive options, including hands-on demonstrations of various devices such as intrauterine devices and subdermal implants.
  1. Pelvic Exam: Build proficiency in performing both speculum exams and pelvic exams used for Paps tests and evaluation of cervical and pelvic abnormalities.
  1. Sterile Vaginal Exam (SVE): Develop skills in performing sterile vaginal exams to assess labor progress to understand basic physiologic concepts of labor progress.

  1. Choosing a Residency: Explore perspectives on researching programs, identifying your values, and selecting where to apply. This session will help you align your residency choice with your career aspirations.
  1. Applying to Ob-Gyn Residency: Signaling and ResidencyCAS: With admission to ob-gyn residency becoming increasingly competitive, this session delves into the new ResidencyCAS application system, discusses signaling, and reviews standardized guidelines for a holistic review of applicants.
  1. Leadership and Advocacy in Obstetrics and Gynecology: Discover the exciting opportunities for leadership and advocacy within the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology. This session highlights ways to get involved in advancing women’s health and driving impactful health care policy changes.

For Junior Fellows

Please plan on joining us for an exciting Junior Fellow Day, where your professional and personal development are the focus! Our day will start with the Junior Fellow Breakfast and Business Meeting, sponsored by the AMA and Health eCareers. During this event, you will receive the latest AMA updates, resources from ACOG Career Connection, and an overview of your Junior Fellow benefits.

Later in the day, you’ll hear from distinguished speakers who will discuss transitioning from being a Junior Fellow to an Early-Career Fellow, work-life balance, the top 10 things you’ll want to know before starting your post-training career, and much more.

This year, we’re excited to present a new format that will allow you to engage with ABOG: a live discussion tackling all of your questions regarding the exam! This session will be followed by our popular case-list demonstration with real-time feedback. Finally, CREOG and APGO will present updates on the National Curriculum, ResidencyCAS, and resident education.
